Agustín Barrios Mangoré: Julia Florida This is just a third practice pass at this lovely piece - not final but better than the previous 2 passes - the mistakes here are maybe fewer (and maybe less offensive) than earlier passes - still a terrible weakness RIGHT where one would expect from a parlor player like me. Anyway - as background for the piece - written, as I understand it, in December 1938 when he was Professor of Guitar at the National Conservatory in San Salvador. It's a barcarola dedicated to the niece of Francisco Salazar, one of Barrios' friends and admirers. Apparently he liked to do this... dedicate pieces to his friends and acquaintances. "Julia Florida" means "Julia Blossoming" - which makes sense, I guess, if it was for a girl becoming a young lady.
